Lars Hilles gate 3

Among the facilities you will find the Academy’s concert hall, Gunnar Sævig Hall, which is also used for teaching and rehearsals with larger ensembles. All ensemble rooms at the Grieg Academy are equipped with grand pianos, and our piano technician, Richard Brekne, ensures that they are kept in excellent condition at all times. We have additional ensemble rooms with fixed amplifier equipment and backline. Further studios can be found at Nygård School, including a large number of smaller rooms for individual practice, many of them with grand piano. The premises are open from early morning to midnight, 7 days a week.

The Academy has a special room for percussion with a good set of instruments, as well as a room with a pipe organ. The Grieg Academy also has a wide range of specialised instruments, including instruments for early music.

Jon Lunds Plass 3

Here you will, among other things, find the Arne Bjørndal Collection and the departments of composition and musicology. The entire premises are at the Grieg Academy’s disposal. The Academy also has access to several ensemble rooms in Nygårdsgaten 5 (Stein Rokkans Hus).

Recording equipment

The Grieg Academy – Department of Music has high-quality equipment for audio recording and lends recording equipment to students under the expert guidance of our sound engineer, Davide Bertolini.

The Academy has two mobile rigs with preamps and converters (8 inputs and 8 outputs each) that can be used for large productions of up to 16 tracks. While students must use their own laptops, we provide the drivers and recording software, if necessary. We have an excellent range of microphones and all the accessories needed for recording: microphone stands, cables, headphones, etc. Students are welcome to contact Davide Bertolini for booking (should be done well in advance since the equipment is very popular) and a basic introduction to using the equipment. There is no charge, but students have to sign an agreement to take full responsibility for the equipment they borrow.
