Lecture with Axel Wieder followed by a discussion between Dominique Hurth and Axel Wieder

Axel Wieder, the newly appointed director of Bergen Kunsthall, will be presenting his curatorial practice within the Master of Fine Art - Exhibition Practice seminar.

Axel Wieder, a curator and writer, is currently director of Index – the Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation in Stockholm and will start his position as director of Bergen Kunsthall in February 2018. He has been head of program at Arnolfini Center of Contemporary Arts in Bristol (2012-2014), where he organized, amongst others, "The Promise”, an exhibition about architecture and public space, and solo exhibitions with Joëlle Tuerlinckx and Ian Hamilton Finlay. Wieder was artistic director of Künstlerhaus Stuttgart (2007–2010) and visiting curator at Ludlow 38, Goethe-Institut New York (2010). He studied art history and cultural theory at the University of Cologne and the Humboldt University in Berlin, specializing in conceptual art, the history of exhibitions and modern architecture. In 1999, together with Jesko Fezer and Katja Reichard, he founded Pro qm, a bookstore and a venue for experimental events in the field of art and urbanism in Berlin. He held lecturing posts at various universities and art academies, including the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
