(NOTE: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Simona Barberas exhibition at Lydgalleriet has unfortunately been postponed. Her Monday Lecture will still take place as planned.)
The lecture aims to expand on the concepts and practices developed in the forthcoming project ‘Between the translucent and the blue,’ exhibited at Lydgalleriet in Bergen. The eight-channel installation focuses on auditory tactility and proximity between subject and space, stemming from an aural-architectural experience based on 3D spatial sound and Ambisonics recording techniques.
Recorded in Genova during spring 2020, the long-duration piece captures non-linear voiceover audio recordings and movements alongside city block infrastructure, enhancing the acoustic tension between absence, embodiment, and abstraction. By exploring sensibilities of urban spaces under changes and pressures, the lecture highlights issues of urban marginality inhibited by fixed structures and defensive functions where city orders hinder the formation of heterotopias, as well as their very creation.
