Torbjørn Rødland – Fifth Honeymoon

Torbjørn Rødland (b. 1970, Stavanger, Norway) is currently preparing the Festival Exhibition 2018 at Bergen Kunsthall, titled “Fifth Honeymoon”. His most recent solo exhibitions include "The Touch That Made You", which opened at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery, London in 2017 and is now on view at Fondazione Prada, Milan. In 2016, Rødland presented the public installation "Blue Portrait (Nokia N82)" in collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Recent group exhibitions include "What People Do for Money", Manifesta 11, The European Biennial of Contemporary Art, Luma Westbau, Zürich and LIT, 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Akademie der Künste, Berlin – both in 2016. Between 2004 and 2007 he produced six video works. One of these, titled "132 BPM", was exhibited solo at MoMA PS1, Long Island City (2006), and at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Hiroshima (2010). Rødland’s latest project book is "The Model” which was published last year. He lives and works in Los Angeles and Oslo.

Wanting to push forward the artistic boundaries of his medium, Rødland has reconceptualized and integrated aesthetic qualities dismissed in staged and conceptual photography. His lecture will focus on strategies to acknowledge the lessons, while moving beyond the limitations, of postmodern art.
