The Faculty of Arts, Music and Design (KMD) opened the doors for potential applicants and other interested parties during the annual Portfolio Day 15 February 2018. For the first time, both in the new building in Møllendalsveien 61 and at the Grieg Academy - Department of Music in the center.

There was a steady flow of visitors who experienced a varied program. Everything from guided tours, music samples and workshops to statues and exhibitions. Several applicants brought work samples to be assessed by the faculty's academic staff. Among them were Hans Jørgen Moldung and Masja Nødtvedt, who both study at the Art School in Bergen (KiB).

"We complete our education at KiB this summer and will apply at KMD," they say. Masja knows she is going to apply for art, but Hans Jørgen is unsure whether it will be art or design. They are both pleased with the insight into life at KMD they get through the open day.
"I know many who study here and have visited the building before. But it was very nice to get a guided tour through the building from students who are studying here now, Masja says.

On tour to check out facilities
Ricardo Buijs and Charlotte Besuijen have both travelled all the way from the Netherlands to visit KMD in Bergen. They are interested in the master's program in art at the faculty. They are currently both doing a bachelor of art from AKV St. Joost. They came well prepared with a notebook full of questions, queuing up in line with other prospective students waiting to talk to professors at the faculty who will assess the students portfolios.

"The impression is that KMD is big and modern," said the two, who claim to be especially impressed with the well-equipped workshops in the building.

"People also seem very nice and welcoming here," said Charlotte, who, along with Ricardo, is on a small tour of art schools around Europe to probe the terrain before deciding where to apply.

-My dream is a master in design
Julian Schlicht has already come a long way. He is originally from Frankfurt, Germany, but fell in love with Bergen when he was on exchange here as a student at the University of Bergen. He decided to move to Bergen and is now studying at Høyskolen Kristiania. His dream is to enter the master's program in design at KMD.
"This must be a great place to be a student," says Julian, who is very impressed with the new building for art and design in Møllendalsveien.
