All are welcome to this symposium where invited guests from cross-disciplinary artistic practices investigate and discuss the transformative role of illustration in contemporary communication. Its focus point is the discussion of what defines illustration practices in our times, and ethics and challenges related to this.
The symposium is part of «Illuminating the Non-Representable», a research project coordinated and led by Professor of Illustration, Hilde Kramer, at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen, Norway.
The project will explore representation and the narratives of “us” and “the others” in cross-disciplinary projects. Participants from different disciplines will explore the transformative role of illustration in contemporary communication. This project consists of three symposia and three three illustration/design projects exploring different aspects of communication challenges. The artistic research unfolds in the symbiosis of the symposia and these projects. The planned output is the investigation of illustration across media and materials.
