Marny Garcia Mommertz is a curator and cultural producer. Her practice is centered around supporting projects and Black artists that contribute to the self-strengthening of Black communities in Europe and the Americas.
As a freelance cultural producer she worked at the artistic residency VILA SUL at the Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia in Brazil in 2019. She furthermore worked as a curatorial assistant at Hartware MedienKunstVerein in Dortmund (Germany) and as a curator for the Munich based organization AfroDiaspora 2.0 e.V. Since October 2020, she takes part in a research residency on Fasia Jansen (together with Princela Biyaa), sponsored by Interkultur Ruhr and the Internationales Frauen* Film Fest Dortmund+Köln and has furthermore participated in several (guest) fellowships and residencies at PACT Zollverein. In 2020, she co-founded the Association for Black Art_ists e.V., which produces events and supports artists who center Black, African and Afro Diasporic artistic perspectives. She also works as a freelancer with the platform Contemporary &.
Currently, Marny is pursuing a MA degree in Museum Studies (University of Amsterdam) as well as a MA in Curatorial Practice (University Bergen).
