Michelle M. Sparks (b.1966, USA) current projects explore the narrative of the "other.” She has a bachelors with honours in Fine Arts and Scandinavian Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder. Informed by Nordic literature, culture, and language her work reflects on the idea of viewing the outsider with new eyes. She acts as a witness as she listens and repeats stories. Deconstructing convention with personal narratives she collects and gives account for the voice of the other through her art. As a social practice she places herself alongside refugees and Norwegians to listen and retell their stories in order to reinforce legitimacy and connection. The individual narratives maybe retold using different media, audio, video, installation, photography, multiples and sculpture.
