How can a design facilitate the extension of an object’s lifespan and the further development of its character through user influence?

In this project, I explore the idea that user influence and the possibility for personal customization can increase the value of an object for the user, thereby encouraging longer usage. By enabling the user to leave their own mark on the design, I aim to create a deeper emotional connection to the object, which could reduce the need for frequent replacement of parts that wear out over time.

In the project, I have explored how experimental materials made from natural sources like wool, mycelium, and seaweed can serve as substitutes for polyurethane foam. I have also examined the aesthetic and practical qualities of these materials through the design of a piece of furniture.
