Sitting Together, Reading Alone

In the project Sitting Together, Reading Alone, I have researched children’s reading habits. Using the library space as a framework, I have explored how furniture and interior design influence children’s reading experiences and engagement with traditional storytelling.

The ability to read is a fundamental democratic right. As we witness growing disparities in reading skills and a general decline in enthusiasm for reading among young schoolaged children, I believe it is essential to understand what they need to foster positive reading experiences.

Since libraries provide children and families with free access to literature they should also offer these visitors welldesigned reading spaces.

Through workshops and artistic research, I have designed a furniture collection based on children’s needs while also considering the contemporary library’s role and services.
