(NO), b. 1994 in Zambia, She/her. Nora Kabanze Shikoswe Hougsnæs’ work explores the complexity of our bodies and our ways of comprehending things. By making room for spontaneity, and staying deeply rooted in the physicality of creating, she captures moments of something raw and unfiltered. She works with layers upon layers and a highly naïve but still figurative expression. Inspired by the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, Nora Kabanze embraces an approach that communicates feelings and experiences that go beyond language. Each piece is an exploration of something or anything, offering viewers a chance to connect intuitively. The works invite contemplation, but ultimately they’re celebrations of freedom and the need for chaos.
