The distinction between ethics and morality is central to the current debate about art's contribution to society. What does it mean to "do good" in the art world and how is this different from "being ethical"? At what scale does the ethical dimension of art become a curatorial responsibility? At the level of infrastructure and funding schemas? At the level of audience participation and inclusion? In the decisions around documentation? Or does the ethics of a work also take place in the work itself, in the way it pictures the world? If this is the case, how is the curator implicated in the ethical consequences of a controversial work? This working group will be primarily focused on how the definition of ethics allows or limits our imagination of it in curatorial practice.
