We have turned Joy Forum's physical space into an archive. When you enter Joy Forum’s space you will find an old metal cabinet. A collection point. A place where the most volatile impressions are lifted and preserved. In the future all Joy Forum’s activities will take place outside the space. In the space you’ll meet the events as an echo. Archived actions. Status reports from ongoing travels.

For this open call we are looking for projects that take place outside the physical space of Joy Forum. The period we seek projects for are: week 48 - 2020 to week 2 - 2021.
The documentation of the actions/events will be presented and archived from week 50 - 2020 to week 2 - 2021.

We encourage all our applicants to think about what documentation is and can be, and to explore different ways of documenting actions/events. Joy Forum wants a physical/analogue documentation for the presentation in the archive. Preferably 2D not more than 40 cm x 30 cm.

The documentation from the process and the descriptions of your work is planned to be published in an anthology created and published by Joy Forum.

For this open call there is no jury and everyone who applies will be accepted.
Joy Forum are looking forward to being in dialogue with our applicants and are very excited about the new project!

––––––––––––––––

Joy Forum is an independent gallery and exhibition space run by a group of students and staff at the Faculty of Fine Art, Design and Music at the University of Bergen (UiB).

Joy Forum will appear as a kind of anti-statement and anti-architecture in confrontation with the surrounding building. The space is constructed using materials from the ‘Test Room’ built on the neighbouring industrial site. This is where the materials used in the KMD institution were tested by Snøhetta. The outer walls of Joy Forum are simply the infrastructure elements that are usually otherwise hidden within the wall. The inside of the room serves as a white-cube suitable for everything from small presentations, exhibitions, screenings, intimate concerts and performances and the like.

In this ambiguous area between joy, sincerity and beauty as well as the feeling of powerlessness and despair, Joy Forum wants to initiate a democratic open platform with the participation of all disciplines. Joy Forum is an independent space in the institution, a place for expressing any and every emotion.
