Bio

My name is Jonas Innstrand Olden, I am 24 years old, and I come from Trondheim and belong to spatial and furniture design. Before I came to Bergen, I earned a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture at Høyskolen Kristiania. Through two years at KMD, I have learned to work independently and creatively, dive deep into topics and acquired valuable practical skills. With this master’s degree, I aim to contribute to creating a more compassionate, sustainable, and balanced world.

PROJECT

Sanctuary

Our society is becoming increasingly secular. Religion has long played a central role in people’s lives, but what happens when this role diminishes? Life is filled with questions and uncertainties, and many have found answers in faith. Churches, synagogues, and mosques have been places for reflection and the search for meaning, but where do we go now if we no longer belong to a religion?
Sanctuary is a critical design project about con templative spaces. It explores the value these spaces have had and how they can be reinterpreted in a secular society. At the same time, the project questions the role of architecture today, what we build for, and what values should guide our building philosophy.

The project seeks to understand what creates an atmosphere and what makes contemplative spaces unique. It examines how different elements interact to create an experience and how our inner emotional life influences our perception of a space’s atmosphere. The goal is to create a space with a spiritual atmosphere, without affiliation to any religion.
