Furniture and Spatial Design

Bio

I’m a 26 year-old Finnish-Czech interior architect. My educational background in interior architecture is from Finland, where I found my passion in public spatial design. Having a cross-cultural perspective on the world has shaped my attitude not only towards life but also to the way I approach design, where I like to combine user-centered universal design with creative experiences.

PROJECT

In_between_spaces

In_between_spaces is a project about transitions. The initial welcoming factor of a space guides this project into a study about navigation, accessibility, and values of a public space.

Transitions are seen as entrances or moments caught between meaningful places. The curiosity lies in creating a transitional space where people feel welcomed to stay – even if it’s just for a while.

These reflections are applied to Strandkai terminalen as an example. A site where I analyse the surrounding historical and cultural area and tie the building as a part of Bergen’s cultural identity. Combining a transition in the urban environment with a collective transportation experience of a boat terminal encourages engagement and highlights the value of communal public space.

A critical reflection on accessibility and shelter of public spaces in Bergen drives this project deeper into a usercentered solution. With a more universal catalogue of transitions as one of the outcomes, this project also offers chances for development and fights against neglected public spaces.
