Sensory explorations for language acquisition

Design, to me, has always been more about connection rather than aesthetics. It’s not just about making things look good, but making them work for people to help them understand the world better, feel included, and navigate the world more easily. As a Graphics design er with a background in Industrial Art and Design (BA, Makerere University. 2021), I’ve always been drawn to the way visuals shape our experiences. But over time, I realized that not everyone experiences the world in the same way.

So much of the world assumes that we all take in information the same way—through words we read or sounds we hear. But what happens when those aren’t options? Sensory explorations for language acquisi- tion is a collaborative project with deafblind people which uses their experiences and needs to encourage exploration, learning and conversations. This project is a process of learning, experimenting, and finding creative solutions to making communication something everyone can be a part of, no matter how they experi ence the world.
