Viola Nimuhamya (b. 1996, Uganda) explores materiality, process, and memory in her craft. She transforms personal, political and cultural narratives into tactile experiences that he uses as a platform for self-expression, dialogue and storytelling. In I Could only See the Back of It, Viola reinterprets a major childhood memory of weaving into an evocative, suspended textile sculpture crafted from upcycled textiles. The work blurs the line between recollection and reinvention into something unique and open to interpretation.
