Artist statement. Collen she/her Ug explores colour as a language of emotions, a tool for change, and a mirror of lived experiences, particularly for women and youths in marginalized places. As a textile artist, I weave personal narratives with collective histories through printmaking, dyeing, and weaving. Each fabric I create is etched with meaning—blended colours symbolizing presence, blurred tones reflecting memory. My MA show installation embodies resilience, using 36 meters of sculpted fabric to celebrate feminine strength, inspired by artists like Pollock and Shonibare, I embrace global influences to challenge societal norms. Beyond art, I seek to foster equity through a vocational community centre, proving that textiles are not just expressive but transformative/bridging divides, amplifying voices, and inspiring change.
