Bio

Mia Almaas Ewings (b.1999, Norway/ England) is a designer and illustrator from Oslo. Mia grew up going to Steiner schools where they developed their love of creativity, a passion that could help them express their feelings and embrace their more introverted personality. They have a bachelors in visual communication from KMD where they created a picture book illustrating day-to-day life with depression. Through Mia’s struggles with their mental health they discovered the need to find joy in the smaller things in life, which is why outside of their studies they have worked on growing their business selling illustrated products both online and in physical stores. Mia’s personal passion is creating things that make people smile a bit more every day, something they hope to keep doing for years to come.

PROJECT TITLE

Strokes of Lavender

‘Strokes of Lavender’ is a project focused on the importance of representing queer joy in all its forms. Mia identifies as queer, asexual and gender fluid, and has personally felt the importance of positive queer representation in media. In this project Mia gathered stories from queer people in Bergen and Oslo asking about their happiest queer memory and then combined them into a graphic novel anthology. The goal of this project is to show the joy that is shared in the queer community, highlighting the humanity and vulnerability that exists within it.
