‘Utopian Descent’ is a visual storytelling project navigating the intersection between personal identity, authenticity, and deepfake technology. The project combines static and animated media to illustrate the loss of personhood that could arise as AI-powered deepfake technology becomes increasingly accessible. Papa Kofi’s goals for this project are to encourage a critical assessment of the future of personal identity within the context of AI deepfakes and to emphasize the need for legislation that protects our identities. Additionally, he aims at establishing and expressing his visual style through this project.
