PROJECT TITLE

‘Identity - an homage to heritage’

The project researches place and cultural qualities to highlight values within our communities that can be preserved through architecture and design.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

An identity is essentially what separates us from others. It is shaped over time in the places we create our societies, and develop into unique representations of us and our history.

This thesis poses critical questions regarding the value of identity in today's society, and what identity means in a professional perspective. I have researched how places are created and the history that has created them. I have focused on why these fragments of history are important to preserve at a time when our cities, communities and landscapes are changing. How do we retain our identity in a time where globalization and modernization are also crucial for development?

In this thesis, I seek answers to how architecture and design can enhance and respect the sense of place and cultural heritage. With an homage to heritage, I want to promote that through recognition of the history that has shaped us, we can create relationships between the past and the future, and see place as a resource for aesthetic value and sustainability.
