PROJECT TITLE

‘Moments in Materials’

Moments in Materials is a practice-based exploration of the unique opportunities that lie within using upcycled and locally sourced materials in a designer-maker context.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This project investigates how untapped and under-valued material resources in our local area can become objects of quality, beauty, and utility. Through a series of practical experiments, the project explores what gives an object its value, both semantically and physically.

Can the wood not only provide strength and beauty, but also carry with it history? What does using unique natural materials provide to the object?  Is it feasible for a designer-maker to use these local resources in a professional practice? – These are some of the questions this exploration aims to give an understanding of.
