This Monday Lecture will present the artistic practice of Gerd Tinglum.

Gerd Tinglum is a multidisciplinary artist with colour as the common denominator.

 

With a background in studies in Germany and Japan, her work is influenced by conceptualism and Eastern Philosophy.

 

She has developed a colour system in line with the words of Marcel Duchamp: I force myself to contradict myself in order to avoid conforming to my own taste.

The colour system is based on coincidence and is used consequently throughout her work.

 

Gerd Tinglum is a Norwegian Artist who lives and works in Oslo.

She has studied Art at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg, at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in Norway, and at The Tokyo University of the Arts in Japan.

 

She has done commissioned work at the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, Asker og Bærum Police Headquarter, Oslo University Hospital Mortensrud among others.

From 1996-2011 she was a professor at the Oslo Academy of Art and Design, at Institute of color.

 

In 2013 she was appointed Professor in Painting at The National Academy of Art and Design in Bergen, from 2014-2017 she was elected Principal, before she was appointed Dean at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and design, at the University of Bergen. In 2019 she ended her position as professor in painting there.

 

Tinglum work has been exhibited in institutions among others Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, The National Museum for Architecture Art and Design, Brandts Klædefabrik Odense, Trondheim Kunstmuseum and Kunstnerforbundet.
