In his artistic research project, Juan Vassallo creatively explores the affordances of human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence for music composition and how these processes might offer the artist new possibilities to expand the conceptual, material, and structural architecture in a piece of contemporary music.

His work inquiries on issues such as how the use of a computer can function as an extension of one´s compositional thinking, where are the borders between technological and human agency, and how can human creativity catalyze, co-exist with or be a disturbing element in computer-assisted composition processes as a ghost in the machine.
