Nina Malterud was a professor from 1994 and rector from 2002 to 2010 at Bergen National Academy of the Arts – before the Academy joined the University of Bergen in 2017. In these positions, she was involved in major changes in Norwegian art education, concerning structures as well as content, and she was involved in establishing a national community and framework for artistic research. In the Monday lecture, Nina will talk about her experiences with this work and her own practice as a ceramic artist.

Nina Malterud (b. 1951) was educated at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo, 1971-74 and has been working with ceramics since 1975, in Oslo and later in Bergen. From 1994 she was a professor in ceramics at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts, and from 2002 to 2010, she was rector at the same institution. She has later worked as a part-time senior advisor mainly on artistic research and artistic PhD at the academies of the arts in Oslo and Bergen, and the Faculty of Art, Music and Design at the University of Bergen. She did a comprehensive retrospective solo exhibition at Kode Art Museum in Bergen, Norway, in 2022. The same year, she was awarded the Ulrik Hendriksen Honorary Prize by Bildende Kunstneres Hjelpefond (the Relief Fund for Visual Artists) and was appointed Knight 1st Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St Olav for her "... pioneering organisational efforts for higher education in art and for her artistic practice."
