The solid and the fluid, the white and the black, red and green, soft and hard—these are concepts and materials I often use in my art.
Rita Marhaug has participated in numerous exhibitions and performance art festivals both nationally and internationally. Collaboration with peers is an essential part of her practice. The body in landscape, time, and dissolution are key themes in much of her work. In her recent projects, the focus has been on perception and transformation. Materially, her works span across printmaking, drawing, installation, photography, video, and performance.
Born in 1965, Marhaug studied at SHKD (graduating with a master’s degree in 1989) and at the University of Bergen (earning an intermediate degree in art history in 1996). From 2001 to 2013, she was a professor of printmaking at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design.
Marhaug was a co-founder of the Performance Art Bergen association in 2011, and since 2014 she has served as chair of Foreningen Trykkeriet. She is also one of three members of the artist book collective CODEX POLARIS.
