Then the hooves of horses thundered- the mad galloping of his stallions.
(Judges 5:22, BSB)
Can you feel the ground shaking?
Before danger can be glimpsed on the horizon, the rumbling can be felt.
An unstoppable advance that thunders the earth, hums in the air or makes no sound at all. It has been a long time since horses and cavalry ruled the battlefi eld, so what still makes the ground tremble?
Hoofbeats shake the ground presents 5 sculptures suspended from the ceiling, resembling the legs of horses standing, galloping and rearing, suspended in a moment of striking at the ground beneath them. The horse carries a pervasive symbolic history. Bridging the gap between the earthly and the divine, freedom and power, war and victory, future and past. This exhibition is a continuation of my interest in apocalyptic narratives and stories about the end of the world, where the horse shows up as an instrument and harbinger of doom.
The sculptures created from discarded cardboard and other packaging materials is a result of a practice that is committed to exploring and developing sustainability, recyclability and re-use within the artmaking process.
The works are a reflection of a time that trembles and the notion that for some the end has already come.
