Exhibit:  25.-27.06.26 10:00-15:00

This project explores the unquantifiable and ambiguous factors in the sustainability debate, and moves past the traditional sustainability equation. Through an auto-ethnographical approach, and retrospective typological analysis, the project aims to pinpoint strategies for imbuing objects with time.

The project explores how designers can strive towards safeguarding aesthetic resonance without being able to verify it, and what kinds of tools make a conscious relationship to time possible in practice. Taran will present her explorations until now, as well as her methods and reflections. She will also be discussing the road ahead for the project.

Bio:

Taran Neckelmann is a Bergen-based designer that aims to create objects that are rooted in durability and coherence, yet reflect our contemporary condition. Her explorations into material and techniques often lead to projects that oscillate between the rational and the sentimental. Taran graduated with a Masters in Design from the Department of Design, at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Music and Design at UiB in 2022. Her master thesis Reflections on Light was nominated for a Norwegian Light Prize 2022. The thesis revolved around how to translate daylights transient and time-telling characteristics into artificial fixtures. It is a collection of experiments on how to incorporate movement into our light fixtures. Taran is currently pursuing a PhD in Artistic Research at Department of Design at the University of Bergen, where her research focuses on aesthetic durability and a narratological, referential approach to designing objects.
