Each spring, Bergen Kunsthall hosts the graduation exhibition of the MA in Fine Art program at UiB’s Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD). This year, emerging artists from 11 countries present their work in a large-scale exhibition that unfolds both within and beyond the gallery walls.

Ears to the Ground

Does life announce what's coming?
A tremor in the soil.
A shift in the body.
A story forming somewhere between memory and imagination.

We navigate unstable grounds and respond to what we encounter.
Perhaps everything we create is rooted in what already exists.
Perhaps every form carries a trace.
Perhaps our processes can reveal something latent in our surroundings.

How much can we take without losing our ground?
How much are we willing to share?

This space requires collectiveness.
This space is open to the possibility of ritual, intimacy, the non-human, the domestic, migration, and fantasy.
This space welcomes the unfinished and the unresolved.

Ears to the ground brings together artists completing the Master's Programme in Fine Art at The Art Academy in Bergen. A common approach in their practices is the exploration of how listening, and paying attention, informs process and manifestation. Through many modes and disciplines this exhibition unfolds as a field of material and conceptual negotiations.

Varsler livet det som kommer?
En bevring i jorden.
En endring i kroppen.
En fortelling tar form et sted mellom minner og fantasi.

Vi leter oss fram på ustø grunn og responderer på det vi møter.
Kanskje har alt vi skaper røtter i det som allerede er.
Kanskje finnes det spor i enhver form.
Kanskje kan prosessene våre avdekke noe som ligger latent i omgivelsene.

Hvor mye kan vi ta uten å miste fotfeste?
Hvor mye er vi villige til å dele?

Dette rommet krever samspill.
Dette rommet er åpent for det rituelle, det intime, det ikke-menneskelige, det hverdagslige, migrasjon og fantasi.
Dette rommet ønsker det ufullstendige og uavklarte velkommen.

Ears to the ground fører sammen kunstnere som fullfører mastergradsutdannelsen i kunst ved Kunstakademiet i Bergen. Et fellestrekk ved praksisene deres er hvordan det å lytte, og å være oppmerksom påvirker prosesser og uttrykk. Gjennom ulike medier og disipliner utfoldes utstillingen som et felt av materielle og konseptuelle forhandlinger.
