MA in Music Performance or Composition 2021

Bio

Isara Masunari was born in 1997 and started playing the piano at the age of five. She received her Bachelor degree with First-Class Honours from the College of Music, Mahidol University. During her study, she participated in the Piano Plus Festival in Corfu Island, Greece, where she had the opportunity to perform in Athens. She also participated in the MusicAlp International Academy of Music in Tignes, France and studied with a renowned pianist, Pascal Rogé. She is currently enrolled in the Master’s degree program at the Grieg Academy under the direction of Einar Røttingen. After completing his symphonic work La Mer, Debussy composed a second collection of Images, which further broadened his range of expression by using three-staff notation and oriental elements such as whole-tone and pentatonic scales. Schubert’s B-flat major sonata is his masterpiece along with the other two late sonatas composed in the year of death, indicating his maturity and individual style. Ballade in G minor is a set of variations on the theme based on a Norwegian folk tune. Grieg was in the midst of a mid-life crisis at that time, and a melancholic theme develops powerfully as the piece progresses.
